Since 2011 the Wiedmann family owns a small shop that sells high quality, ethically sourced game and a couple of other food items that are hand made by independent shop owners in the close area. Due to the corona pandemic 2019 and it's subsequent restrictions the Wiedmann family saw themselves venture into the online world. A website with integrated shop system should enable their customers to keep shopping while also providing a closer way for communication.
Creating a modern, fully responsive website with integrated shop system. The shop should offer a pickup option for customers. Since they had no professional photos of their products, I was tasked to photograph the whole product line.
- Research and decide on a suitable shop system, which can be integrated into Typo3 CMS
- Take and post process professional looking, high quality pictures of the whole product line
- Create a suitable shop interface based on the users needs

Since the product line mainly consists of products sold by weight, this functionality was most important in a shop. Furthermore it needs to be fully compatible and integrable into Typo3 CMS. The shop system has to offer as many options as possible, while being highly customizable.
Based on this criteria I had a closer look onto these three shop systems: Quick shop, Aimeos and Prestashop.
I installed each shop, first getting to know it and working my way through. Crosschecking with the required functions, I created a catalog of functions for each.
Musts:
- Works wit Typo3 10.xx and later
- Highly customizable
- Many free options for delivery, payment, etc.
- Products by weight
- Click&Collect
Could:
- Active Community
The client wanted a dark look. He showed us two websites of butchers that he liked. Based on this, and on his current website, I created a moodboard that combines both ideas. After consultation, the client decided for a dark background on his homepage, only the store should be light.
Requirements:
- Dark but inviting appearance
- Proximity to nature and wildlife should be clearly visible
- Emphasize that it is a family business (values)
- Reachability (opening hours, locations, map)
- Communication (phone numbers, email address, contact form)
The main focus of the front page is a banner, which contains a couple of slides, each conveying an image with information. Typo3 has a complex image processing system integrated, which creates different image sizes during the upload and displays them depending on the device. Not only the image quality changes per device, but also the clipping, which often cuts off parts of the text. Therefore I created different versions of these slides to accommodate different screen sizes.
Having a background as independent food photographer I was tasked with taking profession photos of the whole product line. Due to the temperature sensitivity of the products, I did without large light installations and worked with a mixture of natural and artificial light. Especially game meat looks rather pale and desaturated to the layman, which is why I tried to strike a balance between reality and expectation in post-processing.
For this project I also created a variety of voucher design, both for print and online use. Additionally I created a Flyer which our client can take to the market and use it to advertise their online shop.
The client's original logo and website were in shades of green and brown, which conveyed the company's history and ethics very well. Based on that, I created a color palette that matched the look and feel of the original website and deepened that theme by incorporating photos of forests into the main graphics.
The client requested a dark look and feel, which I was happy to accommodate. Since the original logo was difficult to read on dark backgrounds, I created two versions for light and dark situations.
Next, I created a color palette of dark grays and greens that matched the logo. I topped it off with a bright orange as the highlight color.
